pecha kucha

I was given the brief for creating and presenting a Pecha kucha on the history of flag design to my tutorial group. There is plenty of fascinating stuff about flags and their design, so i tried to put together a fun presentation.

A Pecha Kucha is a 20 slide presentation with 20 seconds per slide. You can check out heaps of cool Pecha kucha’s like i did on this website.

Here are some of my favourite slides from the presentation.

I found it challenging to fit a lot of information in the 20 second slides and there is plenty of information out there about flags. I wanted to gently and in a fun way, inform my classmates about the general design and use of flags and how this applies to our class and goal to become successful designers.

Overall I think i did a decent job despite the fact presenting to the class is not one of my strengths. I was happy I could easily talk about my content and slides. My feedback was that i should have given more eye contact to my class rather than on my slides and that i should have dove deeper into one set of examples on flag design. I think this was great advice I hope to improve in the future.

Looking back on my Pecha Kucha, I’m actually very proud of myself for getting it done and presented at the same time as everyone one else, even though i did have an adverse circumstance and had received an extension. I also could talk confidently about my subject even tho i had less time than everyone else without reading like a robot from palm cards. I choose to do this because i personally don’t like presentation where people just read out their content very quickly as I cannot engage and its too much of a brain overload. I prefer talks and lectures that are well paced and the presenter is passionate and uses their own words to present the information and communicate to the audience. I read one of class mate’s review of my talk and they said i had silent and long pauses but I don’t think that is true because I feel like I talk confidently and non stop and could hav talked for longer if i we had more than a 6 minute timeframe. I think I performed quite well considering if I compare myself to a few of my peers who had extremely long breaks and didn’t say much at all.
